In this video i will show you step by step how to install macos Sonoma to your unsupported device. In order for your device to qualify for this upgrade it has to be between 2008 and 2017 . It can be a macbook air , macbook pro , mac mini or imac.
Ideally your device has to have at least 8gb ram however if your machine has 4gb ram you can still give it a go !
For this video i use a macbook air early 2014 model which has an i5 dual core intel core processor and 8gb ram.
If you can upgrade your ram and/or ssd it will be better to do those upgrades before you start this process because in this way you will have better experience.
To install macos sonoma or any other macos that are more recent compared to your old os eg. macos Big Sur, macos Monterey, macos Ventura you need to go to https://dortania.github.io/OpenCoreL... and have in hand a usb stick preferably 32gb at least. The reason is that if you want to install macos sonoma 14.3.1 that will require more than 16gb or at least that was the case when i installed it and recorded this video. Of course if you have just a 16gb usb stick you can install macos sonoma version 14 and then do a normal software update.
The process is quite long and i tried to make it as short as i could for the purposes of this video.
Follow the steps of this video and you will have your old machine running the latest macos !!!
In this video i did an update from macos Big sur to macos sonoma but if you try to do the same and that fails for whatever reason then do a fresh installation .
Make sure to back up any important data that might have on your machine either on a external hard drive or through time machine .
I had to do a voice over because of the lenght of the whole process .
