How To Make A Cool Storm In A Glass Bottle. Youtube ❤️'s science

This is how to make a cool storm in a glass bottle. A very pretty 'snowstorm' can be made in a miniature way using easily available resources from around the home and inexpensive ones bought from a local store or Amazon. It can be used as either a toy or to study an area of physics and chemistry called 'particle theory' using a rheoscopic liquid or tool very similar to a kalliroscope.

Method:

Order the following simple things :

1. Glyerin / glycerol 250mls Shop here : https://amzn.to/3LnGfhK
2. Makeup mica powder 5g Shop here : https://amzn.to/3HLpkn6
3. Plastic bottles 15 Shop here: https://amzn.to/3GI1yHo

Step 1 add 50ml water to 50ml glycerin in the bottle
Step 2 add 1 tiny scoop, equivalent to 3 match heads, of the powder to the bottle
Step 3 screw the lid down tightly and shake!

Explanation

The device you just assembled is similar to a device called a Kalliroscope, which was invented by artist Paul Matisse in 1966 to create objects of art. Its name can be translated from Greek as “an object to see beautiful flows.”

When you spin the glass bottle, the friction causes the liquid particles inside to also start whirling. By spinning the bottle continuously in one direction, you can make the outer layers move faster. It seems as if the inner layers are dragged after the outer ones, resulting in a beautiful vortex occupying the whole bottle.

The mica particles reveal the movement of the water and glycerol particles as they move in a turbulent, somewhat ‘stormlike’ way in the bottle because they are very reflective and therefore shimmer like a shoal of miniature fish in the sea!

If the liquid inside reaches a rather high speed and the bottle abruptly stops rotating or starts moving in another direction, you can observe more turbulent flows. They are responsible for the most intricate patterns in a kalliroscope or vortex dome.

About MEL Science What we believe in:

We are breaking the stereotype that science is boring, difficult, and only for certain types of people.

We strive to make serious science accessible, interesting, and cool. Science is about exploration, experiments, discovery, and asking questions – all of which comes naturally to all children.

We believe that every child is a scientist. We help nurture children’s natural interest in science by giving them:

• fun handson experiments to engage
• serious, detailed explanations to learn
• VR and AR technologies to dive deeper

We offer:

Educational subscription boxes with breathtaking handson experiments, powered by immersive AR & VR lessons and live online classes. Our products are a great fit for aspiring scientists ages 5–14, science teachers, schools, and homeschooling parents.
