When setting up the welcome channel it is best to ensure that users don't have permissions to send messages in the channel. A Welcome channel works best if only the welcome messages are shown to new users.

Welcome channels can also be set to become hidden once a user has verified through a reaction role. This will ensure that only new members see the welcome channel, and existing members don't have to be distracted by a channel that has no longer provides value to them.
