If you want to make your outdoor gate selfclosing, I'd recommend using a gate spring. I like these from National Hardware ( https://amzn.to/3Ov1Upc ). I have a 14" and a 11" installed which means my wood gate closes quite aggressively, including with a breeze, but most of the time a single 14" spring will do the job.
