MODIS (or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument aboard NASA's Terra (EOS AM) and Aqua (EOS PM) satellites. Terra's orbit around the Earth is timed so that it passes from north to south across the equator in the morning, while Aqua passes south to north over the equator in the afternoon. GLCF provides access to imagery collected from the Terra MODIS sensor, in a product that is a composite of sixteen days worth of images. This composite has the benefit of eliminating most cloud cover found in daily images. Note: the Collection 3, 32day composites will remain online until replaced by the Collection 4 and Collection 5 edition, 16day composites.
