In today's episode, we are going to learn How to make an Aline dress without pattern | DIY easy aline dress. If you haven't sewn a dress before, then we can learn to sew a dress here. We can learn basic sewing methods and also learn how to design your own dress pattern without having to purchase patterns. Dress or frock patterns are often quite expensive and it doesn't allow us much room for modifications. An Aline dress pattern is quite similar to the shift dress pattern, so with a little adjustment, you can learn easy sewing patterns. I hope this video inspires you to sew your own dress.

So, let's get started. :)

First, I folded the fabric in half twice so I can cut out my front and back pieces on the fold at the same time. I used a Tshirt I like as guidance for measurements leaving 1/2 inch for seam allowance. I also carefully drew out the outline for both the front and back armholes onto my fabric.& nbsp;

Next, I pretty much used the entire length of my fabric which fell just below my knee for the dress length. And drew a straight line up till the armhole area. This dress my friends is called a simple Aline dress. I'm not attaching any darts here as I'm keeping it simple.& nbsp;

Coming back to the armholes, I decided I wanted my dress to have a smaller shoulder strap so I redrew the armholes based on an amateur guess, just like a pro!

Then I measured and drew out the front and back necklines. And proceeded to cut all pieces out based on the drawings for the back of the dress. Don't' forget to square out the bottom. Next, remove the back of the dress and label it B, and finish cutting and labelling the front piece, F.

I folded some floral linen fabric in half (times two) and laid the front and back pieces of the dress pieces directly on them to cut out matching lining pieces. Then, I squared out the bottom. I overlocked the bottom edge of both the lining pieces before attaching them to the dress pieces, right sides facing. After pinning carefully, sew only the armholes and neck. Cut the remaining seam as much as possible, turn the pieces inside out, iron the seams flat and do an overstitch to finish it off.

As for the pockets, cut 4 identical pocket pieces with each pair right sides facing (because we want the finished pockets to have its right sides seen from the opening of the pockets). overlock or zigzag stitch all around each of the 4 pieces.

Attach the pockets to about 19 inches from the top of the shoulder, right sides facing and straight stitch them. Next, flip the pockets and finish off with an overstitch.

Here comes the magic that finally puts the dress together. Place the back and front dress pieces right sides facing and sew the shoulders together, as well as the sides taking care to sew around the pockets and not through them. Overlock the edges and we're almost finished.

I measured my desired length for the dress and chopped off the rest. Lastly, I finished off the bottom with an inch hem which was neatly ironed before hemming and sealed off the shoulders with a topstitch.

What do you think guys?

I'm so pleased with this dress. Aline dresses are by far my most favourite dresses to wear because they are flowy and comfortable and just makes it even easier to run around in when I'm minding my children. I think the orange colour with a hint of floral is just perfect for the spring weather that we have only now entered into.
