It's believed to have been created in the early 1920s by Jenny Åkerström, a home economics teacher for the princesses of Sweden. The cake was originally called "Green Cake," but the princesses loved it so much that it was renamed Prinsesstårta, meaning "Princess Cake."

Today, it's a beloved dessert in Sweden and enjoyed for all sorts of occasions, from birthdays and holidays to afternoon coffee breaks.
