How to make handmade papers for journaling collage u0026 mark-making inspired by Momigami and Joomchi

Louise Jannetta

Louise is delighted to present the technique of” ply paper”. The name refers to the layering process used to make plywood when several layers of veneer sheets of wood are layered and glued with the grain of the wood in alternating directions in each adjacent layer. This creates a thin yet strong wooden sheet.

The “ply paper” process incorporates layering to create strength with the addition of elements to add interest and texture.

Following on from the experimental work exploring the potential of the Japanese art of Momigami and the Korean art of Joomchi, Louise takes the process further.

In this video, Louise will show how she utilises the ply paper technique that she has developed from work inspired by the process and idea of Momigami and Joomchi. The ply paper technique allows a mix of substrates; paper, threads, fabrics, paints, varnishes and markmaking can all coalesce to provide differing attributes to affect the work. The result is beguilingly complex and yet has a wonderfully simple process. ENJOY X

A series of videos will progress through the beautiful possibilities this intriguing technique allows.
