English Chemist and Physicist Faraday (17911867), one of the greatest scientists of the 19th century, observed that the changing electric field induces a magnetic field, and by formulating this result, he wrote his name in the history of science. Faraday identified the basic principles of electrolysis

The magnetic or magnetic field is the area in which a magnet can exhibit its magnetic properties. The lines formed around the magnet are called magnetic field lines formed by the magnet in that region. The direction of the magnetic field lines is from north (N) to south (S). The magnetic field is produced internally by moving electric charges, timevarying electric fields, or fundamental particles. The magnetic field is a vector quantity. That is, at any point it is defined by its direction and intensity. The magnetic field is represented by the letter B. The SI unit is Tesla, the surname of the Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla. Since the magnetic field is measured using the Lorentz force, its unit is Newtons per coulumbmeter/second. It is also referred to as T=N(Am)1 since it is called one ampere in coulombs per second. In practice, gauss (G) is used, since Tesla is such a large unit for everyday events. 1 T=104 G

The magnetic field is most generally defined by the Lorentz force acting on a moving electric charge. The connection between magnetic field, electric field, current and the charges that create them are explained by Maxwell's equations. In the special theory of relativity, the electric and magnetic field are two related properties of an object. In quantum physics, electromagnetic interactions occur as a result of photon exchange.

The magnetic field has many uses. The earth produces its own magnetic field and this magnetic field forms the basic working principle of the compass. The rotating magnetic field is used in electric motors and generators. Magnetic forces give information about the number of charge carriers in a material.
