DiskPart is a commandline utility that provides the ability to manage disks, partitions, or volumes in your computer. Users can input DiskPart commands directly to organize hard disk partitions. Most disk partition operations that you can perform in the Disk Management tool are integrated into DiskPart.

⏰ 0:00 Start
⏰ 00:56 Common DiskPart Commands
⏰ 07:16 The Best Alternative to Diskpart

✅ 【Detail】
We will take some of the most common commands that Diskpart uses as examples for you to get a further understanding. We take disk 1 as an example, this disk only has one volume which is volume 4, and all the operations in the examples will base on disk 1 volume 4.
Remember to press enter after each command you input.

1. Delete Volume
To delete a volume, please refer to the following command:
list volume
select volume 4
delete volume
Of course, you are not able to delete system volumes.
After deleting, it will become unallocated, then we can create a new partition.

2. Create Partition
To create a partition, please refer to the following command:
create partition primary size=102400
The above command means to create a 102400MB (around 100GB) primary partition.

3. Format Partition
Type list volume command, and you will find the newly created partition is RAW, which means you must format the partition before you can use it. To format a partition, please refer to the following command:
format fs=ntfs quick
The above command means performing a quick format on the partition. To create other file system partitions like FAT, and FAT32, you just need to replace NTFS with fat or fat32. But DiskPart cannot format a partition that is over 32GB to FAT32.

4. Assign Drive Letter
A partition without a drive letter will be hidden under "File Explorer". To assign a drive letter to an existing partition, please refer to the following command:
assign letter=D

5. Extend Partition
To extend a partition, there must be adjacent unallocated space on its right side, please refer to the following command:
extend size=20480
The above command means to add 20480MB (around 20GB) to volume 4.

6. Shrink Partition
To shrink a partition, please refer to the following command:
shrink desired=10240

7. Mark Partition as Active
To mark a partition as active, just input:
active

8. Convert Disk from MBR to GPT
The most common diskpart commands used on the disk should be the MBR and GPT conversion. To delete all partitions or volumes on a disk and convert the disk between MBR and GPT, please refer to the following command:
list disk
select disk 1
clean
"convert GPT" or "convert MBR".

Although diskpart is able to manage your disk and partitions, it has many limitations and it is not powerful enough, as a DiskPart alternative, AOMEI Partition Assistant is a partition manager software and disk management tool, which provides more features than DiskPart.
