Thoracic Spine & Ribs: Advanced Mobilisation & Manipulation is designed to empower physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and health professionals with advanced skills in the manipulation of the thoracic spine and ribs.

Any form of manual therapy techniques for the vertebral column and pelvis are commonly performed for the treatment of pain and dysfunctional movement patterns. The purpose of this online course is to introduce qualified and experienced manual therapists’ techniques to mobilise and manipulate the thoracic spine and ribs.

The techniques that will be demonstrated throughout this course are very safe and effective as long as they are performed correctly. Proficiency in their use requires training and practice on a continual basis. The term manipulation is often used to describe a range of physical therapy techniques.

The manipulative techniques that will be demonstrated within this course, which include the theoretical components and associated videos are known as a high velocity thrust (HVT). They can also be known as a Grade 5 manipulation and we do this particular technique to achieve a joint cavitation that is generally accompanied by the cracking sound and all this will be explained throughout the modules / lessons located within this online course.

Human anatomy is truly fascinating and so are mobilisations and manipulations of the vertebral column and is one of the many reasons why I wanted to design a course specifically about the functional anatomy, assessment and subsequent treatment protocols for the thoracic spine and ribs.

I will take you stepbystep through how to:

Assess the specific levels of the thoracic spine & ribs
How to apply treatment of the thoracic spine & ribs using muscle energy techniques (METs)
Utilise specific mobilisations of the upper, middle and lower thoracic spine
How to mobilise different levels of the rib cage
How to apply High velocity thrust (HVT) or Grade 5 manipulations to the thoracic spine and ribs
How to manipulate the thoracic spine using a technique known as the DOG
Specific manipulation of the cervical thoracic junction (CTJ)
How to apply the butterfly spring technique to mobilise or manipulate the rib cage
Manipulation of the 1st and 2nd rib

On completion of the course you will have the underlying and fundamental anatomical knowledge necessary to identify, discuss and treat the majority of the anatomical structures located within the human framework of the thoracic spine and rib cage.
