Welcome to another season firing up here in Our Lawn. This video we're talking about the most important step in lawn care, and that is both the importance of and how to go about measuring your yard. Outside of mowing, you really can't do much of anything in lawn care without knowing how big your yard is. In this video I talk about the three options you can use to measure your yard. The first and most straight forward is to go around and physically measure the yard outside. The other two are, in my opinion, more accurate and much easier, and can be done at any time of year regardless of what your weather is. Those are going through some sort of mapping system. I go over using a local county GIS map and Google Earth and how you can use their measurement features to be able to quickly and effectively map out your property.

Again, how much fertilizer you need, how much of an herbicide you need, how much sand you need, all of these questions are going to be answered exclusively by knowing how big your yard is.
