This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, stepbystep instructions on how to paint this exceptional equine image of "Haflinger Horse". You'll learn some basic painting techniques and tips that will have you painting muscles with mass, a mane with movement, how to build depth in the eye to make it look realistic and how to incorporate a layering technique to capture the soft fur. Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we'll create this graceful gentle giant animal with it's golden chestnut fur and it's flowing mane. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

MATERIALS:
Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1/2 inch flat bristle (large), #8 round (medium), #3 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, raw sienna (yellow), burnt umber (brown), mars black, violet purple, burnt sienna (rust)
Other: palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush Paint the background with black, brown, purple and white
2. #8 round brush Paint the outline of the horse with brown, rust, yellow and white
3. 1/2 inch bristle brush Paint the base coat of the horse with brown, rust, yellow and white
4. #8 round brush Paint the first layer of facial features with black, brown and white
5. #8 round brush Paint the second layer of the face with black, brown, rust, yellow and white
6. #3 round brush Finish the eye with rust, yellow, black and white
7. #8 round brush Paint the mane with yellow and white
8. #3 round brush Sign with rust, yellow and white
