How to Paint a Winter Scenery with Watercolor |Easy Watercolor Painting Step by Step

Hello, everyone!
Hope everything went smoothly for you in the first month of 2024.
This time, I used the Baohong studentgrade watercolor pad. I've been accustomed to this paper for a few years now. Although it's studentgrade, it's still made of 100% cotton. Has anyone tried the artistgrade version? How does it feel to paint on it? ;)

0:00 Sketch
Sketch the two main trees in the scene. The distant forest can be painted directly with watercolors without the need for drawing.

2:00 Background
Start with a layer of water, then mainly use Sepia and Lavender to paint the shadows on the snowy ground. In some areas, I also mixed in orange to warm up the color. Then, wait for the background to dry.

2:42 Distant Forest
Apply a layer of water first to help blend colors. Mainly use Indigo, Cobalt Blue, Sepia, and Emerald Green to paint the forest in the background. Start by completing the main areas of the trees, then add the tops of the trees to depict more detailed tree shapes and strokes.

3:53 Ground and Stream
Mix Sepia, Emerald Green, and Lavender to create a light gray tone. Add layers to the snowy ground to show the thickness of the snow and the uneven surface. Deepen the foreground. Use Sepia and Emerald Green to paint the stream.

5:51 Trees
Focus on the foreground using Sepia, Emerald Green, and Indigo to paint leaves and tree trunks. Adjust the proportions of these colors during the painting process to create variation in tones. When painting tree trunks, leave some areas for snow. Try not to add too many layers to make the trunks look too heavy. Maintain the transparency of watercolors as much as possible.

8:19 Snow on Tree Trunks
Avoid sharp outlines for the snow. When the dark tree trunks are almost dry, use a clean, damp brush to rub the snow areas. Soften the edges of the snow. This step is optional; you can also apply a light color to the snow after the trunks are dry to reduce the contrast with the trunks.

9:00 Branches and Leaves
Complete the remaining details of the trees. You can also continue to add layers to the foreground snowy ground.

13:40 Deer
Use a light gray tone to paint the silhouette of a distant deer.

Hope you enjoy it!
