How to grout or regrout tiles

If your grout lines are looking a little tired or you are replacing a damaged tile, you will need to regrout.

Before we start, why not subscribe and click the bell icon for new videos every week.

The first step is to remove the old grout. You can see our tips on doing this here.

With all of the old grout removed, take a damp sponge and wipe down the area.

This will get rid of any remaining debris and dust that was missed.

Which grout you use will depend on both the colour and amount you need.

If you are applying grout to a small area, you can purchase ready mixed tubs like this.

However, the colour range of ready mixed grout is limited. So you may need to choose a powdered grout to mix yourself.

Simply follow the manufacturer's instructions and move on to the next step.

Use a small trowel to apply grout along the lines you wish to fill.

Then, using a grout float or spreader, push the grout into the lines.

Place your spreader against the tile at an angle like this, and sweep across the tile surface.

This will move excess away from the line, leaving a nice, neat edge.

This grout finishing tool will give you a consistent, smooth grout line.

Press the ball end into your line and gently run it across your grout lines like this.

Then using a damp grouting sponge, wipe away any left over grout.

Once your grout has set, a chalky film will appear over your tiled surface.

To treat this, simply use your damp sponge to lift the residue, then buff the tiles with a dry cloth.

You can find most of the tools used in this video on our website.
