How to: Remove Crank Pulley Bolt Without Impact Gun using the Starter u0026 Breaker Bar - Easy!

Here's an old school trick that has made my life easier. If you don't have an impact or the crank pulley bolt is just too tight, you can place a breaker bar on the frame and crank the engine over. Don't start it up remove the plug wires to prevent a fuel injected engine from starting. The torque from the starter is enough to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt. Be sure you know which direction your engine rotates to properly position the breaker bar. I'm showing this trick on my Toyota Pickup with 22R engine, but have done this on other vehicles as well. If you're worried about the breaker bar leaving a mark on the frame, you can put a piece of cardboard between them.

Here's a 1/2" drive 30" breaker bar, similar to the one I used: https://amzn.to/38gPzC1
