How long does it take to replace 600 feet of 6inch water main in a mature residential neighborhood?
a) 2 hours
b) 1 week
Answer: Depends on the construction method. Video overviews #pipebursting activity from an open day in Florida. The entire project entails replacement of 7,000 feet of 6inch & 8inch #watermain with new 6inch & 8inch HDPE pipe throughout residential neighborhoods.
The trenchless open day allowed engineers to view a different way to replace water main than traditional open cut. By using prechlorinated pipe bursting, the 600 feet was replaced in 2 hours. Residents drove in & out of their driveways, all roads remained open and the city didn't receive any customer complaints.
