Global Cycling Network

The fastest a group of cyclists can go is when riding in a pace line, also called riding through and off or riding in a chain gang. In this video, we'll show you how to efficiently share the workload in a group to mean you can ride as fast as possible!

The single pace line
Riders are in a single line, taking 20 seconds or so on the front and then drifting all the way to the back of the line. Pro teams will use this technique for team time trials.

The double pace line
Riders form a continuous chain motion where once a rider is past the front wheel of the rider they're overtaking, they will peel off. Remembering not to surge in a paceline is very important to not anger your riding buddies.
