How to ride on rollers: an old school but still highly effective training aid

Cyclist

Rollers might seem to have been long outdated by the coming of fancy smart trainers and the likes of Zwift etc when it comes to indoor cycling, but they are still one of the best tools available for improving your pedalling technique. Not to mention, they are the simplest form of indoor cycling, requiring absolutely no set up.

Rollers require skills to be able to ride them smoothly and efficiently, and as such they need concentration and balance, which uses the whole body in a way that is much closer to real world riding. Riding rollers engages your core muscles as you stabilise yourself and also promotes smooth pedalling, as you will quickly learn anything less than a 'souplesse' cadence will cause you to feel very unsteady.

In this video we take you through the basic skills required, and some tips to safely get started, plus we also offer some expert guidance for ways to take your roller skills to the next level.
