How to Tell If Being a Physician Is Right for You | OldPreMeds Podcast Ep. 242

Medical School HQ

Before signing up for premed classes and taking the MCAT, you need to verify that becoming a physician is truly the right path for you.

As always on the OldPreMeds Podcast, our question this week is taken from our nontraditional premed forum. Ask your own questions at http://premedforums.com!

Our question comes from a nontraditional premed interested in forensic pathology, who is starting a job at a medical examiner's office. This premed is worried about making mistakes and not doing the right things to get into medical school as a nontrad.

But I actually have another message on some things they should be considering first! In this video, I discuss:

• How to establish a realistic timeframe for your nontraditional premed journey.
• The different components you need to address as a premed.
• Why shadowing and clinical experience should come before taking classes.
• How to verify the fact that you want to be a physician.
• How Mappd can help you chart your nontraditional path to med school.
• Equifinality on the premed path.
• Whether you should drop your nonmedical activities or job as a premed.
• Something to be careful of in your personal statement if you're planning to go into a specific kind of medicine.
