Barbours Auto Help

In this video I go over how to tell if your valve cover gasket is leaking. Typically diagnosing a leaking valve cover gasket is pretty straightforward and only requires a visual inspection. However, there are cases where it’s not so cut and dry as shown in the video. In these cases the use of a UV light and engine oil dye would be recommended.

Here is a video explaining a bit about how to use a UV light to diagnose an oil leak: Find Oil Leaks Easily With a UV Dye Light

Warning!! It is recommended that the vehicle be allowed to cool, not running, for several hours before inspecting. Also, vehicle should not be running and the transmission should be placed into park with the parking brake applied before inspecting.

Warning!! Oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold is a potential fire hazard. It is recommended that oil leaks be repaired ASAP.
