Many of us are familiar with the acronym R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) when it comes to managing acute injuries like a muscle strain or a joint/ligament sprain. However, the 'Rest' component of R.I.C.E. is often taken too far where the injury area gets stiff, weaker and more painful due to disuse. Early movement, strengthening and appropriate injury management techniques are keys to a more complete and quicker recovery.
In this short video, we will summarize and update the R.I.C.E. that we all know, to P.O.L.I.C.E (Protection, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression, Elevation) when it comes to managing acute injuries.
