citizensurgeon

Acute pancreatitis is a problem that we see often on surgery services and in the emergency room.

After understanding the pathophysiology of pancreatitis and how it is diagnosed it's critical to understand how we treat it.

After recognition and diagnosis the most important steps of treatment include intravenous fluid resuscitation, pain control and deciding on the need for admission for intensive care unit monitoring.

We're going to talk about how a patient with acute pancreatitis is monitored, the importance of nutrition and when antibiotics are necessary in the treatment plan.

I'm also going to take you through infected pancreatic necrosis and how we can approach treatment for gallstones pancreatitis, specifically...when does the gallbladder come out?
