How to Treat Peripheral Neuropathy at Home (FOOT PAIN)

Follow
Ed Paget

Neuropathic foot pain? The aim of these exercises is to stimulate the blood flow to your feet and help the nerves recover.

Common causes are things like diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Now, if you don't know why you have foot pain, I would suggest getting a professional to give you a diagnosis. Whether you are managing it with medications or a lifestyle perspective, try these exercises now.

First, you’ll relieve the tightness on both feet by stepping on a tennis ball; this will allow you to loosen up the fascia, the skin, and the connected tissue to help the blood permeate into the peripheral nerves. You’ll massage each area of the foot while sitting on a chair and mindfully applying pressure onto a tennis ball. Avoid applying too much pressure on your body weight.

Then, you’ll improve your coordination by lifting each toe one by one, starting with the outside of your toes and then slowly going down to make your foot as wide as possible. Do it for 3 to 4 minutes; you'll feel the intrinsic foot muscles working.

Next, you will work on the calf and front shin bone muscles. Lay down on your back, put your hands around your leg, and move your foot up and down. Make sure you move the ankle and the toes, pointing up and down. Do 3 sets of 2030 reps on each leg. You can also progress this stretch by sitting on a chair.

Lastly, we will increase mobility into the toes and ankles and strength in the calf by using your body weight to stimulate the cuffs. Lift the front of your feet and leave the ankle hanging on the edge of a step (like in the video) going up and down. Do two sets of ten reps with the feet pointing inwards and two sets more of ten reps with the feet pointing outwards.
