If your mobility scooter or power wheelchair won't hold a charge, you might want to watch this video to troubleshoot the batteries. Checking to see if your mobility scooter batteries have gone bad is pretty easy to do, all you need is a voltage meter. You'll also need to know what type of batteries your scooter has. Most mobility scooters and power wheelchairs use 2, 12volt batteries which together, work with 24volt motors.

To test your batteries, make sure the unit is fully charged, and then grab your voltage meter. Use the probes on your voltage meter to get a read on the meter. Insert the probes into 2 of the 3 holes on the charging port until you get a steady reading. Once your voltage is steady, go ahead and start to move the unit using the throttle lever. If your voltage is staying close to the sale level that it is when its not moving, that is good. If you notice the voltage drops substantially when you move the unit, that means the batteries are not able to work well under load.

Most scooter batteries should read out to around 12.5 volts each. When testing the voltage on a charging port, you should get about 25 volts on a full charge.
