How to use a sponge to match knockdown texture on a ceiling repair

While on an complete exterior repaint in Brevard County, Fl.
We were painting the lanai walls and ceiling, The knockdown texture on the drywall pool patio ceiling started to come off onto our roller when we were rolling the first coat of paint on the pool patio ceiling.
In this video clip I'm using a sea sponge to apply joint compound to the areas where the knockdown texture and paint had failed.

After scraping the problem areas of the ceiling I'll be:
1) Spot priming these areas with a spray can of Kilz primer
2) Then I skim coated the areas with 20 minute hot mud
3) Next I wet sanded the edges to blend into the existing texture
4) With a sea sponge and some all purpose joint compound I will apply a simulated knock down texture feathering to match the existing ceiling texture.
5) Spot prime
6) Spot paint areas
7) Repaint the entire lanai ceiling
