How to Walk Up Stairs without Pain Introduction

This video demonstrates how to use your core to walk up stairs efficiently, with great posture, and with minimal impact on the joints.
The legs should only be doing part of the work when you walk up stairs. How you use your abdominal core is equally important. It's just harder to visualize what your core is doing. In this video I make it clear how you can use your core effectively when walking up stairs. This will help to keep your spine aligned and reduce abnormal stresses on the joints. Walking up stairs, you will use your gluteus maximus, your gluteus medius, your quadriceps, you calf muscles, your hamstrings, and your abdominal core muscles, to name only some of the muscles you will use. This can strengthen your muscles, improve your cardiovascular endurance, and burn calories. Many people get knee pain from walking up stairs. This happens because of not walking up stairs correctly. You should not lean forward when you walk up stairs. Your knees should not shift in front of your toes when you walk up stairs. You need to use your glutes and your quads, as well as other muscles.

How to Walk Up Stairs
1. Keep the spine vertical the whole time
2. Place the whole foot on the step
3. Keep the knee lined up with the ankle and foot
4. Push forward and up with the rear hip until all of the weight is over the front leg
5. When the weight is over the front leg, then push up with the hip of the front leg
6. After fully lifting the body, place the next foot on the upper stair
