How to WIRE UP your Arduino CNC plotter using 28BYJ-48 steppers and RC servo

Go to https://www.pcbway.com/ for high quality PCB prototypes, 3D printing and more! In this video we'll discuss how to do the electronics and wiring on a GRBL based DIY pen plotter using the ubiquitous 28BYJ48 stepper motors for the X&Y axis and a servo motor for pen control, since these simplified CNCs don't quite follow the GRBL textbook when it comes to hooking the Arduino up to the motor drivers and limit switches!
I for my part will also be building a custom controller board based on a cheap arduino clone, integrating the stepper motor drivers and auxiliary components for the endstop switches on the same board as the ATmega 328p will I my first ever custom circuit board run first try? (spoiler: no!) Custom controller or not, the schematic for the limit switches stays exactly the same as does the overall installation of the hardware on the machine!

And like I said the other day, after subscribing and leaving a like on every episode of this pen plotter series you can download the full CAD model with all the dimensions here:
https://rb.gy/0f2445

it's a google sketchup file so you'll need sketchup 8 (free) to open it:
https://www.malavida.com/en/soft/goog...

Here's the combined 28BYJ48 + servo motor GRBL I talked about: https://github.com/ruizivo/GRBL28byj...

And the other versions, exclusively for unipolar steppers OR a servo:
GRBL 1.1 modified to work with unipolar X & Y axis: https://github.com/costycnc/costycnc...
GRBL supporting a servo on pin 11: https://github.com/robottini/grblservo

Needless to say, this version of GRBL works for ALL unipolar stepper motors , so if you don't use the 28BYJ48 but something stronger you'll just have to implement a more powerfull darlington driver to handle the higher currents.
