How to Write Kirby Music

Follow
Rare Ear Candy

I hope this video makes Jun Ishikawa and the other composers of Kirby music proud! We’re diving deep into analyzing Kirby music and how you can write music in the style of Kirby yourself!

Chapters:
0:00 Intro
1:07 Kirby Music Theory
7:53 Kirby Music Production
14:03 My Custom Kirby Theme
16:04 Ending

Recently I had the opportunity to take a class called Media Orchestration at my university, and it was a ton of fun! We wrote short compositions with virtual instruments in different styles every week, which was a great portfolio builder for me. And for a “quirky style” assignment I decided to compose something that sounded like Kirby just for the heck of it! I had a blast doing it, and soon after I thought it would be awesome to make a video on how I made it! And yes, I did receive an A on the assignment, in case you were wondering. BOOYAH!

I know this wasn’t the kind of video that some of you were expecting—I do have more regular music videos coming in the near future, but I also wanted to try out making educative style videos. As someone who has a lot of experience with music theory and production, I love analyzing video game music and teaching about how it’s made behind the scenes, and I’d love to make that a semiregular part of this channel! So do me a solid and let me know what you think about this style of video and if you’d like to see more like it, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks to my good friend Sam for doing the awesome thumbnail artwork!
