HP Reverb G2 Lesser-known Facts

A very short, no nonsense video to explain some lesserknown facts about the HP Reverb G2 VR Headset that I couldn't easily find anywhere else...

The tether cable has an inbuilt breakout box that divides into USB and display port connectors and provides a point to connect the power supply. The length of these 'tails' is 1.3m. From the breakout box to the headset is 4.7m, making the total cable length of 6m.

PSU is a nonproprietary design 19.5V 2.31A with a cloverleaf mains connector (on my UK version at least).

Velcro strap on PSU cable can be removed to use as a cable tie at the rear of the headset as the supplied cable clip is neither placed ideally or very robust and is probably best avoided.

I suggest cable is routed under the left band, then tied loosely to the top of the rear band. This prevents hinging up of the headband causing more stress than necessary to the endofcable connector.

The hand controllers eat their way through batteries faster than Cookie Monster used to eat cookies. Most rechargeable batteries (NiMh) are only 1.2V which apparently causes inaccuracies in reporting of charge levels. Therefore, rechargeable batteries that supply a constant 1.5V are recommended. LiIon types are ideal. Just ensure they have their own specific charger and you never mix them up with other types.

Finally, I didn't mention it in the video but if you have long eyelashes, keeping the spectacle spacer in place will be more comfortable. OK, you will sacrifice a few extra degrees of field of view that you can gain without it, but I think it is better to be comfortable.
