Brandon Applegate

This footage was recorded on Thursday, October 10, and Saturday, October 12, 2024, just days after Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key in Sarasota County. The impact on Englewood, Manasota Key, Grove City, Boca Grande, and the surrounding areas was devastating. According to local first responders, Manasota Key had been inaccessible to the public, including its residents, until 4 p.m. Saturday. County officials, first responders, and electric companies have been working through the island to ensure it is safe. Now, residents and business owners are making their way back to assess the damage.

The devastation to nearby homes and businesses is evident. Reports indicate that storm surge caused widespread destruction, including wind damage, flooding, and several feet of sand covering homes and the island, pulled in by Hurricane Milton.

We know the resilient residents of Southwest Florida will overcome this adversity and come back stronger than ever. If you know anyone impacted by Hurricane Milton and they need assistance, I urge you to help in any way you can, even if it's a small gesture. It’s inspiring to see how these events bring communities together, with neighbors pitching in to support one another. We have full confidence that Southwest Florida will bounce back stronger than ever.
