Poles were deported to Siberia in large numbers by the Russian Empire and then by USSR.
Many survivors of deportation ("Sybiraks") belong to the Sybirak Association ow which anthem was written in 1990s by Marian Jonkajtys.
To this day Polish communities descendants of the victims of persecution exist scattered through Siberia and Kazakhstan.
