In this interview, Trang asks me about the details of my recent appendix removal surgery that I had done in Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan, Vietnam. Phan Rang is a rural town on the South Central coast of Vietnam, about a 6 hour drive from Saigon (HCMC).

The appendectomy is considered a major emergency surgery. Removing the inflamed appendix can be a potential life saving procedure, and it involves being put to sleep, cut open, and having a part of your organs removed. I’m really thankful that the hospital in Phan Rang was able to perform the surgery well and I have recovered just fine.

During this interview, I go over how I found out I needed to have the surgery, what the surgery was like, what recovery was like, and how much the entire process cost. I also talk about ways in which I think the process could be improved, and how the overall care compares to what you would receive in Ho Chi Minh City and America.

Hopefully this video brings you some value and gives you a better perspective of what life is like for an expat in Vietnam, and what getting a major surgery is like in a different country.
