JustAnswer Customer: I have a Kenmore Coldspot model 106 that is not cooling.
JustAnswer Customer: I have some questions.
JustAnswer Customer: Can you help me answer them?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX you for choosing our service.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Sure how may I help you?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Please put a letter right in front of the model number so I can see it, otherwise it gets blocked because the model resembles a phone number.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: A106.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: XXXXXXX, like that.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: Model number is XXXXX
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thank you Jim, now I can see it.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: What questions do you have?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Barry
JustAnswer Customer: Did you get the preliminary info I sent?
JustAnswer Customer: I have a Kenmore Coldspot that has stopped cooling on both the freezer and the refrigerator sides.
JustAnswer Customer: I have vacuumed the coils, the compressor and condersor fan will run, the feezer fan runs, the defrost heater and thermostat both have continuity.
JustAnswer Customer: What else can I check?
JustAnswer Customer: Does this unit have a defrost timer or is that controlled through the control panel?
JustAnswer Customer: Jim
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Yes the defrost on this model is controlled by the main board which is the same board you change the temperature with.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: When it runs longer than 15 minutes do the coils in the freezer get lightly frosted?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Have you ever seen them packed with frost?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Barry
JustAnswer Customer: No, I did not see any frost.
JustAnswer Customer: Today when I started to troubleshoot the problem the unit had been unplugged since yesterday so was fully defrosted.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: What you need to do is and now if you can is remove the lower rear section inside of the freezer so you can see the coils.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Plug it in and turn it on.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Leave the doors shut for 30 minutes then look at the coils and let me know if the whole set has become lightly frosted.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Please take your time I will be here.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Make sure the compressor and rear fan come on.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: I just did that and I can see the coils getting frost on them now after just 45 min.
JustAnswer Customer: The compressor is running but does not feel very warm and both fans are running
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: What you want to see is the entire set get frosted, that can take about 30 to 45 minutes and that is about average for all models.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If they get frosted sooner than that then it is cooling great.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Make sure the compressor is not cutting out if they do not get frosted.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If they do frost check the drain pan underneath for a lot of water.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If its there then not defrosting is the problem and the board will be the problem.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Also if you find that the refrigerator should get cold and remain cold for at least 10 days before the frost gets so thick that it cannot circulate the air.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If the compressor does not cut out and the coils do not become lightly frosted from top to bottom there is a coolant leak in the system.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If you have questions about my answer please click the "Reply To Link" I will be happy to explain anything that is not clear.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Please do not forget to leave a rating .
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If you have a problem leaving a rating please let me know.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: I have a question about your reply below;   If they do frost check the drain pan underneath for a lot of water.
JustAnswer Customer: If its there then not defrosting is the problem and the board will be the problem.
JustAnswer Customer: Also if you find that the refrigerator should get cold and remain cold for at least 10 days before the frost gets so thick that it cannot circulate the air   The drain pan in bottom of the unit (not the freezer pan) appears bone dry.
JustAnswer Customer: Please clarify your reply?
JustAnswer Customer: I would think if there is a lot of water in the drain pan then that would indictae that the unnit had recently defrosted and the defrost heater, thermostat, etc.
JustAnswer Customer: are working.
