In this video I make the dye NileBlue, after which the famous YouTube channel is named.
I start from 3(diethylamino)phenol, which I nitrosate with nitrous acid. The nitroso compound is then condensed with 1aminonaphtalene, forming the phenoxazine ring of NileBlue. Finally I demonstrated some of its cool properties like pH color dependance, solvatochromism and fluorescence in 27 different solvents.
