There's currently an ongoing open beta (June 2730), which allows us to try the new (land)spears on all 9 professions. I chose to try them all in the open world, to try and find out which I liked, which I liked less, and whether some might be able to surprise me.

Engineer, Thief, Guardian, and Mesmer are my favorites by far. I love the interaction of the weapon with the profession, how the skills feel, and look, and how it all comes together.

Despite having high hopes for Warrior, I couldn't help but feel let down. Spear on Warrior is a simple weapon, but nothing in the current kit interacts with its ranged ability, regardless of which Elite Specialization you might be inclined to pick.

Ranger left me conflicted... I could see how this is a great addition for group content, and how it might work well if you kill the occasional enemy. But I expected more. Same with Revenant. I love being able to play around Abyssal Chill, but I'm not so sure I want to give up my Shortbow so easily.

You can find all build links in the pinned comment, but I wanted to shout out https://www.metabattle.com for their great open world section, which helped me make this video in such a short time. As well as https://www.guildjen.com, despite not using any of their builds this time round.
