March 9th, 1996, started with a sense of foreboding.

A friend of Paul's came down with Malaria so he asked Paul to lead a canoe safari down a lovely stretch of the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe in his stead.

During the tour, one canoe lost its way and the next thing Paul knew, a hippo had capsized it.

Bravely going in to rescue his fellow guide, Paul's life was forever changed when he was face to face with a very menacing hippo.
