Overview:
Cisplatin is a platinumbased drug that is used in chemotherapy in the treatment of malignant tumors. It has been used for the treatment of numerous human cancers including bladder, head and neck, lung, ovarian, and testicular cancers. Serious dosing of cisplatin leads to different side effects of which one is ototoxicity. Ototoxicity is a case where a person develops hearing or balance problems due to medicine. This can happen when someone is on a high dose of a drug that treats cancer, infections, or other illnesses. Cisplatin when inserted in the body it triggers the NOX3, ROS, STAT1 genes in cochlear cells which leads to apoptosis. Our main aim is to identify the genes or pathways related to the side effects of cisplatin using the gene expression data from lung cancer which will also verify if the ill effects of cisplatin are generic or specific to cochlear cells. We found a dataset from GEO with accession number GSE14814 with 133 samples which were differentially expressed by calculating the PValue and Log(FC) value. The probes were enriched using the DAVID database from where we got the gene ids and found various pathways related to cancer out of which we sorted specific pathways and looked for their relatability with ototoxicity.
