Identifying and Treating Lipedema-Related Fibrosis — Karen Ashforth MS OTR/L CLT-LANA

Lympha Press USA

Women with lipedema currently have few options other than liposuction for relief from painful and heavy subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Highfrequency ultrasound is a promising conservative treatment studied by Karen Ashforth in a pilot program. Participants had statistically significant improvements in many areas: not only did pain levels decrease, but thigh circumference also decreased, even with women who had previous liposuction. Additionally, ultrasound readings of the treated areas showed changes in the quality of the subcutaneous adipose tissues after treatment.

The full title of this presentation is "Ultrasonic Cavitation and Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment as Conservative Treatment for Lipedema Subcutaneous Tissue;" Karen presented this research at the inaugural 2023 Lipedema World Congress in Potsdam, Germany, and the lipedema world is abuzz with these new findings.
