REL Appalachia hosted a webinar focused on equipping elementary and middle school mathematics teachers and curriculum coaches with: 1) researchbased recommendations (approved by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences, or IES) for identifying students struggling with mathematics, and 2) guidance on strengthening mathematics instruction and support for these students. The IES practice guide, Assisting Students Struggling with Mathematics: Response to Intervention (RtI) for Elementary and Middle Schools, and its eight recommendations were the event’s focal points.
