Anxiety isn't new; there are biblical accounts of it in the book of Genesis and throughout the Bible. It is prevalent today, leading many people to despair and sometimes attempting to escape the pain through harmful means, causing even more anxiety and trouble. Most often (but not always), it seems, anxiety can be traced to broken relationships, concern about people we love, relationship issues, jealousy, financial concerns, health concerns, fear of death, sin, or a combination of these.

We don't think we've ever met anyone who didn't experience at least some anxiety at times. But we've observed that those who trust God and have worked at eliminating sin in their lives have filled their hearts and minds with that which is good, allowing less anxious thoughts in. Conversely, the person who lives without a personal relationship with our Creator has less defense against anxiety; the void allows terrible stuff in. Here are a few verses that we pray might help:

Philippians 4:47 "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
