Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Dr. Satish Dhawan, an Indian aerospace engineer who served as the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He is credited with making significant contributions to the development of India's space program and establishing the country as a major player in the global space industry.

Dhawan was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India in 1920. He received his undergraduate degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Minnesota and later completed his PhD in aerospace engineering from the California Institute of Technology.

After completing his education, Dhawan returned to India and joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore as a professor. He was later appointed as the director of the institute and played a key role in establishing the Indian space program.

Under his leadership, ISRO successfully launched the Rohini satellite and developed the satellite launch vehicle, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). Dhawan passed away in 2002, but his contributions to the field of aerospace engineering and the development of India's space program continue to be recognized and celebrated.
