IJN Yamashiro – A Quiet Career Ending in Fire and Destruction

Follow
Skynea History

Japanese ships, of the second world war, tend to range from 'really really lucky' to 'really really unlucky'. Yamashiro, the second of the Fusoclass, falls somewhere in the middle. She was 'lucky' in the sense of avoiding damage, for much of the war.

One can argue she was also unlucky, in her one battle ending in such a catastrophic loss.

Regardless, Yamashiro is an interesting ship to look at. Even if most of her career can best be described as 'training and patrols'.
