In Memory of my Dad

Follow
Lydia Martin

I lost my incredible dad, Dermot Martin to stage 4 prostate cancer in October. He was diagnosed in July this year and began treatment but unfortunately it didn't work and he passed away at home on 05/10/23. A month has passed and we are still in shock but I wanted to mark today with a tribute to him on my YouTube channel. He was my biggest cheerleader and loved watching my vlogs (which I always thought he'd find boring but he was so interested) so it felt right to share his life with you and tell you more about the man he was. I wouldn't be studying medicine without him, be it him encouraging me to be interested in science and the world around us, helping me with quadratic equations at the dining room table for my A levels or him telling me to keep applying for medicine and never give up. I owe so much to him.

His requiem mass was live streamed last weekend and you can watch it here    • Requiem Mass of Dermot Martin: 27th O...

featuring an incredible Eulogy by my dad's friend Ed (13mins15), one of my best friends Tara sings beautifully "Who Knows Where the Time Goes Sandy Denny" and straight after I read my poem (1hr7mins)

He was feautured (and even on the front page of) a few newspapers when he passed away:
