In a move set to significantly boost India's trade capabilities, the Indian government yesterday approved the construction of a new megaport in Maharashtra called Vadhavan. The project, valued at over $9 billion, is expected to propel Vadhavan into the ranks of the world's top 10 ports upon completion. Vadhavan will be situated on the Maharashtra coast, strategically located to serve two key trade corridors: the IndiaMiddle EastEurope Economic Corridor and the International NorthSouth Transportation Corridor. This positioning allows India to strengthen its connections with Europe, West Asia, Central Asia, and even North America. The port itself will boast an allweather design, ensuring yearround operations regardless of weather conditions. With a capacity of 298 million tonnes of cargo, Vadhavan is expected to significantly enhance India's ability to handle largescale shipments.
