Firstperson shooter video game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was created by Treyarch and Raven Software and released by Activision in 2020. The Cold War's early 1980s provide the setting for the Black Ops Cold War campaign, which takes place chronologically between Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012). The pursuit of accused Soviet spy Perseus, whose declared objective is to undermine the United States and tip the balance of power in favor of the Soviet Union, is at the center of the story. The player controls "Bell" for the duration of the game. Bell is enlisted by CIA agent Russell Adler into a global task force established to find Perseus. Characters from Black Ops are also seen returning throughout the campaign such as Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson, with Mason also being the playable character in certain missions.
