Injection Therapy to relieve low back pain in the Sacroiliac (SI) Joint explained by Dr. Matthew Neumann I The Spine Center of Baton Rouge

In this video, Matthew Neumann, M.D., talks about Sacroiliac Jointrelated pain (SI Joint). Dr. Neumann is one of the physicians at the Spine Center at Bone & Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge and specializes in pain management.
The SI Joint is located at the bottom of the spine where the Sacrum (the tail bone) meets the Ilium (the hip bone). When you walk the SI Joint moves in multiple directions and can be thrown out of alignment. Misalignment can be the result of previous injuries such as a broken hip, knee surgery or other lower extremity injuries.
After physical therapy and nonopioid pain medications have been attempted, an injection can be an alternative to surgery. An injection is often a good nonsurgical option and are done as an outpatient procedure in our facility.
A mixture of steroid and numbing medication is injected into the SI Joint. After brief observation the patient is sent home. It typically takes about 2 weeks for the injection to provide pain relief.
An SI Joint injection can be both diagnostic as well as therapeutic confirming the pain generator.
Dr. Neumann specializes in injection therapy to reduce pain with a focus in treating pain originating from the spine. Dr. Neumann also offers treatment for nonspine pain as well.
