This technique is not new as it forms one the basic concepts for Jazz improvisation as well as reharmonization. You would find out that the theory of reharmonization is basically condensed into this concept, such that when grasped would make for easy transition to other keys while in a particular key, without compromising the melody of the song/instrumental, yet sounding spectacular!
