A septic tank riser allows for easy access to a septic tank for maintenance. This tank is located next to all the utilities and was a hazard to dig it up. There is a possibility of cutting a utility or even causing injury if a live wire was cut. The decision was made to install the riser while we had it opened. All utilities were marked before digging, the tank was serviced, then we installed this riser.

Riser installation is relatively easy and can be done yourself to save some money. Several different types of risers exist.

Risers make sense if there is potential to cut something when digging in the future, or if the tank is deep or the soil difficult for digging, or if someone has an immaculate yard and doesn't want the lawn to be torn up when servicing the septic tank.
