To download and install Nessus Essentials (formerly known as Nessus Home) on Kali Linux, follow the steps below. Please note that the exact instructions might vary slightly depending on the most recent updates to both Kali and Nessus. As of my last update in September 2021, this is how you can do it:

Registration:
First, you need to register for Nessus Essentials on the Tenable website. Visit the Tenable Nessus Essentials page and complete the registration process. Once you have registered, you'll receive an activation code in your email. Keep this code; you'll need it to activate Nessus later.

Download Nessus for Debian:
Kali Linux is based on Debian, so you'll want to download the Debian version of Nessus. Navigate to the Nessus downloads page, and download the Debian package suitable for your architecture (usually amd64 for modern systems).

Install Nessus:
Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the .deb package. Then use the dpkg command to install it:

$ cd /path/to/downloaded/folder
$ sudo dpkg i Nessusversiondebian.deb

If there are any missing dependencies, you can fix them using:

$ sudo aptget f install

Start Nessus:

$ sudo systemctl start nessusd

Complete the setup:
Open a browser and navigate to https://localhost:8834/.
Follow the onscreen instructions to set up Nessus. This is where you'll enter the activation code you received in your email.
After activation, Nessus will begin downloading and updating plugins. This might take some time, depending on your internet connection.

Scan with Nessus:
Once all plugins are updated, you can begin scanning. Set up a new scan, input the target, and configurations, then run the scan. Always ensure you have permission to scan the target. Unauthorized scanning can be illegal.

Always ensure that your tools, including Nessus, are uptodate to benefit from the latest features and security patches. Remember to only scan systems and networks you have permission to scan. Unauthorized scanning is not only unethical but also illegal in many jurisdictions.
